Facebook, Posterous and Tumblr
Thus far, Posterous is working really well for me, and I've got it hooked up to auto publish to ten other services. I've got a fair number of users on Facebook and I don't necessarily want all my Facebook friends to see all of my Posterous posts. I'd like to set it so that my posts to Facebook from Posterous do not show up on certain Facebook friend's walls via my feed; when certain Facebook friends visit my wall I'd like them to not see my Posterous posts.
I've tried every conceivable permutation of privacy settings, creating lists, etc and I can't get this to happen. I also tried with Tumblr and I'm having the same problem. The closest I've been able to come to this is with Posterous only posting status updates and only giving one Facebook friend list the ability to see status updates. Anyone outside of this list won't see any of my status updates on their wall feed (or news feed or whatever the hell it is called) and they won't see these Posterous status updates when they visit my Facebook page and view my wall. Facebook privacy settings are quite frustrating because it isn't entirely clear whom will see what, or exactly what privacy settings will impact exactly which features. I'd love to bail on Facebook altogether but I've got some friends on Facebook that are pretty focused there that I'd like to keep updated on the irrelevant minutiae of my life - poop frequency, what I had for lunch, bathroom trips, etc. Un-fucking-real, you've made it this far. Here is a stupid picture of a bird for your viewing enjoyment:
